Ellwood City

Ronald Lee Ashurst, Jr., 59, of Ellwood City, found eternal peace with the Lord on October 8, 2025.

Born May 20th, 1966 in Reno, Nevada, he was the son of Kolene L. Mason. When Koe married in 1994, he gained his loving father, Charles Mason.

Ron was the epitome of a warrior. From his service in the United States Navy, to his health and the war that followed, he fought with courage and honor in every battle.

A motorcycle enthusiast, he enjoyed repairing motorcycles with his friends at the bike yard, Cycle Salvage of New Sewickley. He felt his best when he worked with his hands and could fix anything, whether a household repair, a motorcycle, or a broken heart. He was also a devoted husband, father, "pappy", and friend. His loss will leave a heartbreak that only he could fix.

He is survived by his loving wife, Alene Ashurst, of Ellwood City. He and Alene moved to Ellwood on New Years Day of 2025 to join their daughter Autumn Stang, of Ellwood City, as well as her husband, Cody Stang, and their two children, his grandchildren, Olivia and Stetson Stang. He is also survived by step-daughter, Jessie Cobb, of Ellwood City; granddaughter Brianna Kidd (Joel) of Pittsburgh; grandson David Ellis and granddaughter Sadie Ellis of Coconut Creek, FL; father Charles Mason of Conneautville; siblings Tracy Del Vecchio of Seminole, FL, Shannon Fox (Jeff) of Los Angeles, CA, Robert Ashurst (Kelly) of Virginia Beach, VA, Korry Ashurst of Newton, North Carolina, Joy Ashurst (Debbie) of Johnstown, PA, Charles Mason of Bridgewater, PA, Terri Baker (Dave) of New Brighton, PA, Marlynn Gibson (Shawn) of Lakeland, FL, as well as countless friends, cousins, nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his new service dog, Bandit, who served him faithfully.

In addition to his mother Koe, he is preceded in death by step-son, David Cobb, brother Steve Mason, sister Wendy Dugan, niece Olivia Red, and his best friend of all time, his beloved dog Foxx.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Never Walk Alone Foundation of Ellwood City, as well as the doctors and nurses of Allegheny General Hospital, all of whom fought tirelessly for Ron. Special thanks to Doctor Lee, you gave us a chance when nobody else would.

Loved ones and friends will be received at Grace Community Church, 9160 Marshall Rd, Cranberry Twp, PA 16066 on October 24th at 4 pm for a Celebration of Life service, which will be followed by a memorial dinner.
