Norma Jean Johnston, 78, of Harmony Baptist Road, Shenango Twp., passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Ellwood City Hospital. Born on March 31, 1937 in Baltimore, MD, Norma was the daughter of the late Andrew and Gertrude Francis Bowers. Norma married Richard Allen Johnston on June 24, 1955 and he preceded her in death in August, 2013. She was Catholic by faith. Norma worked as a bookkeeper, first at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Baltimore, MD and then later at Airway Industries in Ellwood City. She owned a gift shop, Le Giftique, in New Castle during the 1970's and later owned a restaurant in Lantana, FL in the 1980's. Norma and her husband owned and operated Johnston Construction in New Castle for many years. She did all the paperwork and bookwork while Richard did the construction. They lived in California and Florida and they both loved to travel. Norma grew up near the ocean and she never outgrew her love for it. She went back to the ocean every year. Norma was an amazing artist, who enjoyed sketching. She also loved antiquing. Norma is survived by her children, Deborah Lee Johnston of New Castle and John Allen Johnston of Tucson, AZ and six grandchildren: Mauricia, Dylan, Trevor, Chad, Mo and Rusty. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her uncle, Eugene Francis with whom she was very close. Friends will be received on Wednesday, May 14th from 5:00 PM to the time of the Blessing Service at 7:00 PM at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport.
