Martha Kushner, 89 of 8th St., Sharpsville passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014 in Nugent Convalescent Home following a short illness. Born in NuMine, PA on June 7, 1925, Martha was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary Demchak Wanchik. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Kushner whom she married on October 9, 1948 by The Very Rev. Paul Tkach. Martha was a 1943 graduate of Sharpsville High School. After school she worked at the office in Westinghouse and later the former Sharon Store until the birth of her daughter. She was an original and very active member of St. John's Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church. At the church she was a member and held several offices in the Mothers and Daughters Club, she also enjoyed being around people and helping in many of the church activities. In the early years of Camp Nazareth Martha worked there in the kitchen. She enjoy bowling and playing cards with her family and friends. Martha and her husband lived at their home in Sharpsville since 1958 and always enjoyed her neighbors front porch visits. She loved supporting and attending as many of her granddaughters activities as she could to cheer them on. Besides her husband, Martha is survived by 2 children and their spouses, Deborah and her husband, Rev. Deacon John Anderson of Sharpsville, Gregory and his wife, Carolyn Kushner of Horsham, PA, 3 granddaughters, Emily Anderson, Tatiana and Nadia Kushner, a sister, Pauline Neilsen of Walton Hills, OH, a sister-in-law, Helen Wanchik of Greenville and several nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, Joseph, Nicholas, George (Chick) and Paul Wanchik and 3 sisters, Helen Jedlicka, Mary Liptak and Delphine Svigel. Friends may call at the Tomon Funeral and Cremation Services in the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 E. State Street, Sharon on Sunday from 4 to 8 PM and Monday at St. John's Carptho-Russian Orthodox Church, Morefield Rd., Hermitage on Monday from 10 until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 AM with Rev. David Mastroberte, Very Rev. Michael Polonichka and Rev. Deacon John Anderson. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. A Panachida Service will be offered at the Funeral Home on Sunday at 7:45 PM. Memorial contributions can be made in Mrs. Kushner's name to the building fund at St. John's Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church.
