James E. Michlich

November 22, 1936 — May 6, 2025

James Michlich, a proud veteran and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025 at the age of 88.

Born on November 22, 1936, James served his country with honor, beginning his military career in the United States Air Force and later joining the United States Navy in 1953. Following his service, he briefly lived in Boston, Massachusetts before returning to his hometown of Ellwood City, where he worked at B&W Aliquippa until his retirement.

Even in retirement, Jim remained active, having jobs at the Aetna Standard in Ellwood and ALSY Lighting, most recently serving as a local school crossing guard. Affectionately known as “Mr. Crossing Guard,” he was cherished by students, earning a kind of celebrity status among those who looked forward to seeing his familiar, friendly face each day.

Jim was a passionate outdoorsman and a proud member of the Clinton Gun Club for over 40+ years. He spent countless summers camping and fishing, sharing his love of nature with his grandchildren and becoming legendary for his exceptional campfire cooking.

Jim was a man of deep faith and a longtime member of Holy Redeemer Church, where he found strength, comfort, and community.

He is survived by his loving wife, Constance Michlich; sons James Michlich, Dave Michlich, and Edward Michlich; daughters Mary Michlich, Elissa Tonks (Rodney), and Debbie Rozzo; grandchildren Carley Hooke (Jonathan), Cassidy Hatch (McClain), and Zachary Rozzo; and great-grandson Lyam Hooke.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Michlich; his parents, Mildred and Earl Michlich; his son, Joseph Michlich; and his mother- and father-in-law, Thelma Stoops Loccisano and John Loccisano.

Jim will be remembered for his warmth, generous spirit, strong values, and the lasting impact he made on those lucky enough to know him.

A Memoral Mass will be held for Jim at Holy Redeemer Church on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 11:30 AM.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport.
