Dr. Salvatore A. Migliore, Sr., of Ellwood City, PA, 83, a prominent Pittsburgh orthodontist, went home to the Lord on Sunday, December 7, 2014, after a lengthy and courageous battle with lymphoma. Born December 18, 1931, in Wilkinsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Rev. Salvatore Migliore and Clara Pergola, and was raised and spent most of his early life in Homewood, PA. Dr. Migliore was proud to be a first generation American. He graduated from Westinghouse H.S., where he was a starter on the powerhouse football team. Dr. Migliore served in the US Army during the Korean War, from 1954-56. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1961 with a B.S., and a D.D.S. from the School of Dentistry. Dr. Migliore earned Honors convocation from 1958-60 and the Mosby Scholarship Award for Academic Excellence in 1961. From 1961-64, he simultaneously served as research fellow in Orthodontics, Harvard University School of Dental Medicine, and National Institute of Health Postdoctoral Research Fellow. From 1963-64, he served as professor of Orthodontics at Harvard. In 1964, Dr. Migliore completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard. To be close to his parents, Dr. Migliore returned to Pittsburgh, and located his practice in the North Hills, more recently in New Castle, and continued practicing for nearly 50 years. He also was an associate professor of Orthodontics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry from 1964-72. Dr. Migliore was a member of the American Dental Association and the Pittsburgh chapter of the Harvard Club. He enjoyed flying his airplane, traveling, gardening, spending time with his family and friends, and was an avid reader and sports enthusiast. Dr. Migliore enjoyed singing and was a member of the Dentones, a popular choir group of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry, and the choir at the Eastern Orthodox Church in New Castle. He was involved in his community, including serving as Athletic Director for the North Allegheny Cowboys youth football team. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Dr. Migliore is survived by his wife, Kathleen Linville; his first wife, Patricia Dowling, and their six children, Salvatore, Jr., (Chris) of Reston, VA, Debra and Lisa (Ken), of Pittsburgh, Tina (Tony), of Rochester, NY, Michael (Kris), of Wilmington, DE, and Francesca, of West Palm Beach, FL; stepson John (Margie), of Ellwood City; and twelve grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Grace Frances, of Oakmont, his twin brother, Dr. Philip J. Migliore (Ann), of Houston, TX, and younger brother, Rev. Dr. Daniel L. Migliore (Margaret), of Princeton, NJ. Visitation with the family will be held at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellwood City on Fri., Dec. 12 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Sat., Dec. 13 at 9:30 am, immediately followed by a memorial reception and luncheon at Shakespeares Restaurant & Pub in Ellwood City.
