Chester A. "Chet" Gardner, 72, of 4556 Old Pittsburgh Road, Wayne Township passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. Born on September 30, 1941 in Ellwood City, Chet was the son of the late Harry A. and Frances Stevenson Gardner. He owned and operated his family dairy farm and was a member of Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church. Chet was a wonderful husband and father and he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Chet is survived by his wife, the former Ilene Chapman, whom he married on October 25, 1984, a daughter and son in law, Kim and Lee Groom of Patterson Twp., and five sons: Albert Gardner, Jr. of Wayne Twp., Harry R. Gardner of Florida, Jeffery J. Gardner, Todd M. Gardner and Eric Gardner, all of Wayne Twp., six grandchildren, two sisters, Laura Sheldon of Perry Twp. and Gladys Martin of Butler, PA, and three brothers; Richard Gardner of Wayne Twp., Albert Gardner and Charles Gardner of Wayne Twp. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Christie. Friends will be received on Thursday, April 17th from 3:00PM to 6:00PM at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 6:00PM with Rev. Bruce Gardner.

I am a new neighbor & have only know Mr.Gardner a short while. He was friendly & would always wave. Made me feel welcome to the neighborhood. Wish I had more time to get to know him- I will miss him. May his family find peace.
