Anna Walko

Anna Walko, 88, formerly of 482 Charles St., Sharpsville passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 12:50 AM at Nugent's Convalescent Home. Born in Czechoslovakia on March 9, 1923, Anna was the daughter of the late John and Suzanna Balascak Soroka. She married John Walko, Jr. on May 10, 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1973. She was a member of St. John's Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church and its Mothers and Daughters Club. Anna formerly worked as a clerk at the Sharon Store and later at Strouss Department store. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Susamme Walko of Baltimore, MD, a grandson, Timothy Walko, also of Baltimore and two sisters, Helen Couch of Wadsworth, OH and Margaret Hosick of Phoenix, AZ. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Michael Soroka and two sisters, Mary Bishop and Irene Shaffer. Friends will be received on Friday, March 25th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Tomon Funeral and Cremation Services in the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home. A Panachida service will be held at the funeral home at 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 26th at 11:00 AM at St. John's Orthodox Cemetery Chapel with Msgr. Michael Polanichka. Interment will follow in St. John's Orthodox Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Mrs. Walko's name to St. John's building fund.

Dan & Susanne, so sorry to hear of your mothers passing. May her soul rest in peace. We know this is a sad time for you, but it is also a time to celebrate her great life and reflect on the many good memories you shared with her. We also just celebrated my mothers life the past few days. She passed away on March 19. May God bless you as you move forward with your lives, and remember the wonderful woman you called mother.
