Anna Kundlya Blanar, 102, formerly of Brookfield, OH passed away at her daughter Carol Ann Blanar's home in West Lafayette, IN on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, one month short of her 103rd birthday. Born in Donora, PA on May 5, 1912 Anna was the daughter of the late Joseph and Eva Duda Kundlya who emigrated from Jakubany, Slovakia. Anna married Steve Blanar on October 17, 1936 and he preceded her in death on August 22, 1991. Anna was a 1930 graduate of Sharon High School and a member of St. John's Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church in Hermitage. She was an excellent cook and her family and friends enjoyed her Rusyn foods, especially her Paska. Anna was a member of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society and a charter member of the auxiliary for the American Carpatho-Russian Club of Sharon. An avid reader of the Bible and the Wall Street Journal, Anna was also a member of the Greek Catholic Union. Anna will be sadly missed by her three children; Eveline Marte Blanar of Warren, OH, Peter J. (Wanda) Blanar of Marietta, GA and Carol Ann (John) Granrude of West Lafayette, IN, two grandchildren, Stephen J. (Joy) Blanar of Royal Palm Beach, FL and Stephanie J. (Scott) Higginbotham of Hartville, OH; five great-grandchildren; Jessica L. Blanar, Mark J. Blanar, Nicholas S. Higginbotham, Matthew A. Higginbotham and Megan A. Higginbotham. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents and her husband, Anna was preceded in death by two sisters; Kathryn Hazuda and Mary Kundlya and four brothers; Peter, John, Joseph and Michael Kundlya. Friends will be received on Saturday, April 4th from 12:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm with Fr. David Mastroberte at St. John's Orthodox Church, Morefield Rd., Hermitage. Interment will follow in St. John's Orthodox Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Tomon Funeral and Cremation Services, 264 E. State St., Sharon.
