Andrew Gaydos

Andrew Gaydos, 84 of 950 Woodland Place, Hermitage died on Saturday April 18, 2009 at 11:45 AM in Sharon Regional Health System. Andy was born on July 21, 1924 in Nu Mine, PA to the late John and Mary Gaydos. He was formerly employed by Sharon Steel and Goodyear in Akron, Ohio. He retired after 38 years of service from the Sharon Post Office. A Veteran of the US Army serving in WWII, he was awarded 2 battle stars. Andy was a graduate of Youngstown State University. An active member of St. John's Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church, he served on the church board and the cemetery committee. He was also active with the church bingo for 20 years. Andy was also a member of the Carpo-Russ Club in Sharon and the VFW Post 6166 in Hermitage. Andy is survived by his wife, the former Mary Tatusko, whom he married September 6, 1947, a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Frank Bair of Hermitage, a daughter-in-law, Hope Gaydos of Sandy Lake, 3 grandchildren: Corrie and her husband, Bernie Dickson, Laura Gaydos and Justin Bair, and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Ken Gaydos, 2 brothers, John and George Gaydos and 5 sisters: Virginia Gaydos, Ann Kapsa, Mary Gaydos, Helen Stupinsky and Susan Montiler. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 22nd from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Tomon Funeral and Cremation Services in the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home. A Panachida service will be held at 6:45 PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 23rd at 11:00 AM at St. John's Orthodox Cemetery Chapel. It will be preceded by a brief service at the funeral home at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in St. John's Orthodox Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Andy's name to either the St. John's Church Building Fund or Cemetery Fund, 425 Cedar Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.
