On Friday, March 27, 1942 the Farrell Press announced: "John Giroski, a popular local undertaker announced today that he will open a funeral and undertaking home at 1246 Haywood Street (now Roemer Blvd.) and will be open as of next Wednesday. The home was the former of residence of the late Joseph Cantelupe and is being thoroughly remodeled throughout. Mr. Giroski stated that he will have the latest equipment available for the conduct of his new establishment. He will announce complete details soon and invite the public to inspect his new home." In 1977, Mr. Giroski sold the funeral home to Robert F. Leipheimer who worked there for 19 years previous as a funeral director and embalmer. In 1990, Mr. Leipheimer sold the business to Joseph A. Tomon, Jr., a funeral director from Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. Mr. Tomon had worked as a trade embalmer for Mr. Leipheimer for several years before Mr. Leipheimer decided to retire. From 1990 until November of 2004, the funeral home was known as the Leipheimer-Tomon Funeral Home. In November of 2004, our building was sold and our business moved to 264 East State Street in Sharon at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home. Not unlike many modern doctors offices, we have three seperate funeral services operating under one roof: the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, Tomon Funeral & Cremation Services and Joseph Brashen Funeral Service. One might also notice that along with our move came a name change to Tomon Funeral & Cremation Services. |
